What To Do In Jedburgh With Kids

Jedburgh - and the Scottish Borders - are a brilliant place to visit with children. We're not about big chain restaurants or retail parks. Instead you'll find loads of history, nature and friendly places to eat and drink.
An ideal place to start is with the 'big three'. That's
Jedburgh Abbey, Jedburgh Castle & Jail and Mary Queen Of Scots House. With the Jail and House being free entry, and entry to the Abbey highly reasonable, you can get access to three major sites for very little. All are within a five minute walk of one another, with parking directly by the castle or just over the river from the Abbey. A quick tip; Mary Queen Of Scots House has a lovely garden which makes a great spot for a picnic.

Elsewhere, the town is easy to navigate, with many independent shops and cafes to visit and a playground by the bus station.
The riverside walk is flat and peaceful, with plenty of wildlife to be spotted. You'll also find our br
and new Skatepark by the river. Allerley Well Park is a few minutes out of town but worth the hill climb for the wonderful views and the children's playground, newly installed in 2024.

And if you feel like travelling
a little further, Harestanes Playground, Cafe and Art Studios is not only a perfect destination in it's own right, with it's huge playground and sweet shops, cafe and ice cream shop, it's also a great starting point for some of the regions best walks, including up to the Waterloo Monument. Getting out into the country for views, walks and fresh air couldn't be easier in Jedburgh. Pick a direction and within a few minutes you'll be out in the wilds. Just pick a direction and off you go!
