From Jedburgh, Out Into The Scottish Borders

A stay in Jedburgh places you in the heart of some of the UKs finest countryside. Among that stunning scenery you will also find centuries of history to explore. Although we would very much encourage you to Visit Jedburgh, we cannot deny that there is much to see beyond our beautiful town. Head in any direction and within minutes you will be deep into our countryside, passing remnants of castles, passing through ancient forest and chancing upon quaint villages surrounded by sheep, cows and wildlife. Nearby towns include
Kelso, Hawick and
Melrose.

The Borders are of course very much associated with Abbeys. Our own
Jedburgh Abbey is among the finest in the country, but you should also consider
Melrose Abbey,
Dryburgh Abbey and
Kelso Abbey and all can be experienced in one day (but why rush?!). Alongside these wonders of history you will also find stunning (and more intact) buildings bursting with stories and history, such as
Floors Castle in Kelso and
Abbotsford, the home of Walter Scott near Melrose. These offer not just a taste of the region's past but are full days out, with gardens, play areas and cafes on site. Other sites of note include the new
Great Tapestry of Scotland in Melrose,
Thirlestane Castle in Lauder,
Traquair House in Innerleithan and the stunning fortress that is
Hermitage Castle in Newcastleton.

Just like Jedburgh, the towns like Kelso and Melrose offer great days out, wandering old towns and experiencing local independent shops and cafes with their own unique charm. But out there, between the towns you will find another side of Borders life.
Trekking with Alpacas, wild swimming, stargazing at
Kielder Observatory. the many
walking,
cycling and
horse riding routes - all form part of the wonderful, reflective pace of Borders life. Visit Jedburgh, then see so much more!
