How far is Jedburgh and how do I get there?

Jedburgh is located around an hour in all directions from major population centres: Edinburgh to the north, Newcastle to the south, Berwick Upon Tweed to the east and Carlisle to the west. This places it in one of the most isolated locations in the UK. And yet this is without question a huge part of its charm and character. Instead of concrete and crowds, we have open land, stunning scenery, abundant wildlife and a deep sense of calm and tradition.
But it does often leave potential visitors asking: exactly how far is Jedburgh and how do I get there?!

Jedburgh sits on the A68, making journeys from Newcastle and Edinburgh direct and simple. But the journey is also part of the experience; you’ll get to enjoy passing through some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. Whilst a journey from Berwick or Carlisle requires the use of smaller A and B roads, this only adds to the enjoyment of passing through such wonderful countryside. It also allows a chance to visit some fine locations en route, such as Hermitage Castle, Carter Bar, the William Wallace Statue or the many historic abbeys (other than Jedburgh’s own!)
When you arrive, you’ll find two large free car parks + electric car charging points and free public toilets.

If you are using Public Transport, Jedburgh has a central bus station, which connects to Edinburgh, Newcastle and local towns. The nearest train station is at Tweedbank, though if you are visiting from the south, it may be quicker to depart at Newcastle or Berwick and travel on from there.
So Jedburgh really isn’t that far. And the journey is part of the adventure too!
